Though collecting sports memorabilia started out as a hobby for children, most of the high-end collecting these days is done by adults. This includes the most personal expensive sports memorabilia, autographed equipment. In this article we are going to talk a bit about signed footballs.
As you may know, baseball is the national pastime, but football is easily the most popular spectator sport in North America. As a result, its players are some of the most beloved and well-compensated sports stars on earth. And obtaining autographs from these sports gods can be quite challenging.
Where to begin? Getting the signature of your favorite NFL player is often much harder than obtaining an autograph from either a professional basketball or baseball player. This has nothing to do with the players themselves, but rather with the layout of the stadium and the warm up routines. You see, more often than not NBA and MLB players will warm up before games and will sign autographs for a few lucky fans in the stands. But NFL player rarely do this because the walls are much too high for fans to pass them items that they might then autograph. It is also a question of accessibility, and NFL players are much more difficult to get to .. in part because of architecture.
So, how can you get an autographed ball? The easiest way to get a signed football is to actually buy one. There are scores of reputable sports memorabilia websites on the internet, including this one, that stock or supply autographed footballs of nearly every player in the league.
Now, we know what you’re thinking? If these sports websites can get autographed balls for free, why can’t I? There must be a secret way. Well, there isn’t. The truth is that many of these websites pay players for their autographs and then they sell the balls at a slight premium so that they might make a profit.
This leads us to another way to obtain an autograph. We are speaking of course about sports auctions and conventions. These are shows that athletes attend where they sign sports memorabilia for a set fee. Quite often sports-star signings are organized as fundraisers to support a charity.
What about free items? We knew you just couldn’t resist. Unfortunately, obtaining autographed footballs is extremely difficult. As we mentioned, they are easily the most difficult athletes to get to for a number of reasons. That is why we recommend that you attend a sports auction or convention, or simply purchase a pre-owned autographed football online. The only other option is to send them a ball directly and ask them to sign. Of course, most big time players simply do not have the time to sign balls, so you may be out of luck.
Buying online is probably the simplest method. And you will not only find current players' autographs available, but also signed footballs from past legends. (Expect to pay a little more for those!)
